The Zebra Rock Mine is located about 55km from Kununurra (in the opposite direction) just over the border in the Northern Territory. The Zebra Rock Mine does not have any signs for a cafe nor do we sell wine holders (The Zebra Rock Gallery does)? Our bathrooms are very clean and not located in a 'back area'.

Start with 600 grit and work my way up to 7000 grit followed by a 5 micron abrasive liquid polish and then the final step is a 1 micron polish (used for polishing scratches from polycarbonate canopies on aircraft). There is a bit of work in the process, but the lustre it produces is worth the effort.
Review of Zebra Rock Mine. Reviewed 3 June 2013. A true bush camp that's well worth the trip up the dirt on Duncan Rd (about 5 km ) from the Victoria Highway. Lots of space Ruth & Kim plus or groups baby Opal are the most welcoming people ever. Happy to share their stories and aspirations for thisstilldevelopping family venture.
Geologists from Japan inspect the Zebra Rock mine. Jewellery made from Zebra Rock. Zebra Rock in ground. Zebra rock in pit. Slabs of Zebra Rock. Matt Brann speaks to Ruth Duncan from Kimberley Stone.
Zebra Rock Mine is the only one of its type operating in the world. The rocks are simply amazing and stunning. Well worth wandering through the free gallery. There is a mine tour available for $55. We chose the sunset cruise ($129) because we had heard such good things about it and couldn't afford both.
Zebra rocks have only been found in the Lake Argyle catchment of northern Australia and are believed to have formed 1.2 billion years ago. The mine is owned by couple Ruth Duncan and Kim Walker ...

The Zebra Rock Mine is tucked away at the end of a gravel road which is a bit dusty but in quite reasonable condition. Two wheel drive vehicles towing a caravan would have no trouble getting in there. The folk that own and operate the mine and caravan park are lovely and keen to show you around their property.
The owners had bought a mining lease for Zebra Rocks, which is a striped rock found only in the Kimberley. As a side venture the owners Ruth & Kim have opened up a camp ground and operate mine tours, as well as boat cruises on lake Argyle. The kids were able to fossick in the dry creek beds for the Zebra stones and then they spent hours ...

The view from a lookout near the zebra rock mine and campsite: The next morning we went on a Mine Tour at 9am (which was 7:30am according to our body clocks!). We took a short bus ride to the mine and then the tour guide spoke about the formation of the rock and how they mine it. It was quite interesting (and free too - which was a bonus!).

Zebra Rock Mine. There's a few great spots in between Kununurra and Katherine to stop and spend a few nights, but we were a bit pushed for time and skipped many of them, choosing only to stay at Zebra Rock Mine. This is about 10km down Duncan Road, on the Northern Territory side of the border and very close to the check point itself.
There was a beautiful gallery and gift shop showcasing the Zebra rocks. We missed the free gallery tour which was at 3.00 pm. The Gallery includes crystals, fossils and history of the local area. The staff gave Mitchell a couple of zebra rocks. This is the only Zebra Mine operating in the world. Zebra Rock is a very unique stone.
